Kim Jae-sup Hits Back at Disciplinary Threat: "Start the Process Right Now"

People Power Party lawmaker Kim Jae-sup fired back Wednesday after party leader Jang Dong-hyeok said he would move to discipline party figures calling for his resignation, saying, "Start the disciplinary process against me right now."

Kim wrote on Facebook that day, "If the fight that led the Seoul mayoral election to victory as head of the election campaign committee was an act of shaking the Jang Dong-hyeok leadership, I will gladly accept the discipline."

"If being repeatedly accused by the Democratic Party during the election process and even facing a disciplinary petition from the National Assembly's Ethics Committee is considered an offense against the party, and if calling for a break from Yoon Suk-yeol is judged to harm party discipline, I will gladly accept the discipline," he said.

Kim said, "As for what was truly the path for the party and the path for conservatives, I will leave that judgment to the party, the citizens, and time."

Earlier that day, Jang appeared on Maeil Shinmun's YouTube program "Lee Dong-jae's News Cabinet" and said, "I think the party is not in a normal state," adding, "The time has come to give an answer, whatever the conclusion, on the internal disciplinary requests and other matters that were postponed until after the June 3 local elections."

He went on to name names, saying, "I would like those who demand my resignation while talking about 'alternatives and the future' to search how many articles they generated by fighting the Democratic Party all this time," and "I would like a list compiled of how many posts lawmakers Kim Yong-tae, Kim Jae-sup, and Woo Jae-jun — who call themselves young politicians and talk about reform — actually put on social networking services (SNS) to fight the Democratic Party."
