Rep. Jeon Eun-soo of the Democratic Party welcomed the final selection of Asan and Cheonan in South Chungcheong Province for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's (MOLIT) AI-specialized pilot city competition, which the two cities jointly applied for. "I will make sure things proceed without a hitch so that Asan can become the center of the K-AI City model," she said Saturday.
In a press release that day, Jeon described the selection as "a major turning point for Asan's leap into future industries." The AI-specialized pilot city project is part of the "Republic of Korea Artificial Intelligence Action Plan," which the government is pursuing to become one of the world's top three AI powers. It is a K-AI City leading initiative that introduces AI into city operations and management to make citizens' daily lives more convenient and safer.
Jeon had regarded the AI-specialized pilot city selection as important for Asan's leap into a future industry hub since her candidacy. On June 12, shortly after winning her seat, she visited MOLIT and met with Minister Kim Yun-deok, requesting interest and support. "If cutting-edge AI technology is applied to rapidly growing Asan, the overall operation of the city, including transportation, safety, disaster response and handling of civil complaints, will become much more intelligent, and the level of urban services that citizens experience will rise significantly," she said.
She added, "This selection is an important opportunity for Asan to leap forward as the center of the K-AI City leading model," and pledged, "I will pay particular attention to the project's progress so that it can lead to AI industry development, job creation and the expansion of a future mobility foundation."
