People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok publicly called on Prime Minister Kim Min-seok and Democratic Party leader Jung Chung-rae to discuss holding a re-election and launching a special counsel investigation into the National Election Commission over the shortage of ballots during the June 3 local elections. In a Facebook post on the 13th, Jang said, "The format doesn't matter. A three-way meeting would be fine."
He stressed, "A nationwide re-election must be held, and a special counsel must be launched immediately," adding, "Prime Minister Kim Min-seok even called for dismantling the election commission. Leader Jung Chung-rae said he agreed to a special counsel." He also wrote, "There were as many as 869 cases of 'twin' vote counts nationwide. Even 15 cases of 'triplet' vote counts were found," and "Yet the election commission's fact-finding committee excluded them entirely from the investigation. The commission just keeps repeating that 'it is statistically possible.'"
He continued, "The 'probability' of the South Korean national team winning the World Cup is about 0.35%. That's when you use the phrase 'statistically possible.' If they really won, we would call it a 'miracle,'" and "Such 'miracle'-like events happened all at once." He emphasized, "Rather than arguing 'statistical possibility,' verifying the facts is common sense."
He added, "(The commission) said it had discarded all the ballot boxes, but a YouTuber brought one out. It is the court, not the election commission, that judges 'evidentiary value,'" and "Following North Jeolla, about 1,700 votes were also missing in the Gyeonggi education superintendent election. It was also found that votes by candidate had been entered in reverse."
Jang warned, "There are already 35 election complaints filed. It is hard to predict how much more this will grow," and "The price for ignoring citizens' anger is just one thing—the collapse of the administration."
The YouTuber mentioned by Jang is presumed to be Jeon Han-gil. On the 12th, Jeon held a press conference in front of the handball stadium at Olympic Park in Songpa-gu, Seoul, and said, "The election commission said on the 9th that it had discarded the storage boxes through a disposal company. They said (the commission) discarded them, but I will show you now," before unveiling a white paper box marked "Jamsil 7-dong 2nd Ballot."
