Lee Jun-seok, leader of the Reform Party, on Monday questioned Jang Dong-hyeok, leader of the People Power Party, who called for a full re-election over a ballot shortage, asking, "Is this an attempt to pressure Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon to resign?"
Lee said on Facebook that day, "Leader Jang raised the idea of a 'full re-election including Seoul.' But the Seoul mayoral race is an election that PPP's Mayor Oh won."
He continued, "One way to nullify a won election is for Jeong Won-oh, the defeated Democratic Party candidate, to file an election nullification lawsuit. But candidate Jeong has already cleanly admitted defeat." He added, "Could it be that Leader Jang is begging the opposing party to 'overturn our party's victory through a lawsuit'?" Lee said, "The second way is for Mayor Oh to voluntarily return his win and resign, holding a by-election in October. It is the only path that the People Power Party can directly control."
He went on to say, "The conclusion converges on one point. The 'Seoul re-election' that Leader Jang mentions is the same as demanding that Mayor Oh 'step down from that position,'" striking directly with, "Pressuring Mayor Oh to resign is bad politics."
Earlier that day, Jang held a press conference at the National Assembly and called for a re-election, saying, "If citizens' voting rights have been infringed upon and the election has been tainted, this is not a matter of weighing a party's advantages and disadvantages."
