Cho Kuk, leader of the Rebuilding Korea Party, said on the 4th that he would resign as party leader to take responsibility for the defeat in the National Assembly by-election for Pyeongtaek-B in Gyeonggi Province.
In a social media post that day, Cho said, "I failed to open a new path of hope before the party members who devoted themselves under the name of the Rebuilding Korea Party in this election. It is all due to my shortcomings." He added, "I will pause for a while, but my fellow party members, please move forward proudly," and "I will reflect on myself, temper myself, and prepare for what comes next."
In the Pyeongtaek-B by-election in Gyeonggi Province, People Power Party candidate Yoo Eui-dong won, defeating Cho's candidate and Democratic Party candidate Kim Yong-nam.
