President Lee Jae-myung said Wednesday that "in the Republic of Korea, we will make it impossible to make money by committing illegal acts and inflicting harm on others." He also urged voters to turn out on local election day, adding, "Provided that you do not give up your vote and choose capable and faithful workers wisely."
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the president said, "Whether it is an individual, a corporation, or the government, those who report corruption are paid 20% to 30% of the recovered amount as a reward." He added, "For example, if someone reports corporate collusion aimed at selling at inflated prices, hundreds of billions of won could be paid out as a reward."
Sharing a briefing video from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission titled "2 Billion Won Paid to Corruption Whistleblower," Lee wrote, "Given that the collusion fines on flour and other products amounted to about 700 billion won, if executives or employees of the companies involved (including those who actually took part in the collusion) had reported it, up to about 200 billion won could have been paid out as a reward." The shared post also included the phrase, "As the president said, this person changed his fortune for good."
Lee said, "Of course, the basic principle is to ensure that diligent and capable people have opportunities under fair and transparent rules." He stressed, "Just as Korea is transforming from a real estate speculation nation into a premium financial nation, the Republic of Korea must now move from a catch-up nation to a leading nation, and beyond that to an irreplaceable core nation, by the power of the great Korean people." He added, "We can absolutely get there, and we are already on our way."
Finally, the president added, "Provided that you do not give up your vote and choose capable and faithful workers wisely."
