The asset declaration of Yoo Jeong-bok, the People Power Party's candidate for Incheon mayor, has been issued with a correction notice ahead of the June 3 local elections, following allegations that he failed to report virtual asset holdings.
The National Election Commission (NEC) said Friday that it had issued a correction notice after determining that Yoo's asset declaration was partly inconsistent with the facts. The commission reviewed the matter after receiving a complaint that the assets of Yoo's spouse had been recorded in election campaign materials differently from reality, examining explanatory materials submitted by Yoo's side before deciding on the correction.
Following its review, the NEC concluded that the assets of Yoo's spouse should be recorded as 518.57 million won, rather than the previously declared 439.88 million won. Accordingly, Yoo's total assets including those of family members should be recorded as 1.92297 billion won, up from the previously declared 1.84472 billion won. In line with relevant regulations, the NEC plans to post five copies of the correction notice at each polling station within Incheon.
Earlier, one media outlet raised allegations that Yoo's spouse had held 21,000 units of virtual assets but transferred them to an overseas exchange and omitted them from the asset declaration process for local election candidates. In response, after the election campaign committee of Park Chan-dae, the Democratic Party's candidate for Incheon mayor, filed a complaint against Yoo and his spouse on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act and the Public Service Ethics Act on the 22nd, the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency assigned the case to its anti-corruption investigation unit in consideration of its significance.
