Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party candidate running for Seoul mayor, criticized Democratic Party candidate Jung Won-oh on Saturday for taking sole credit for the development of Seongsu.
During the Seoul mayoral candidates' televised debate hosted by the National Election Commission on the 29th, Oh argued that the late Mayor Park Won-soon, a Democratic Party member, had blocked the redevelopment of the Sampyo Ready-Mixed Concrete site. "Hyundai wanted to build its headquarters 110 stories high on the Sampyo Ready-Mixed Concrete site," Oh said. "The plan to upgrade the area from a Class 1 residential zone to a commercial zone was underway, but it fell through when Mayor Park Won-soon took office." He added, "If Hyundai had moved in, Seongsu-dong would have been developed on a much larger scale."
Jung pushed back, saying, "Hyundai's decision not to move to the Sampyo site was made in February 2014. At that time, I was not the district mayor — it was during my predecessor's term."

Oh countered, "Then why didn't you go to Mayor Park Won-soon afterwards and ask him to reconsider?" He added, "When Candidate Jung published his book, he did not mention that the development of Seongsu-dong was not his work alone and that there was help from the Seoul Metropolitan Government."
Jung rebutted, "I stated in the preface that the development of Seongsu-dong was not a matter of my own doing, nor was it the work of any single individual."
