Han Dong-hoon, an independent candidate running in the Busan Buk-gu A constituency for the June 3 National Assembly by-election, cast his early ballot Thursday and called on voters to actively participate in the election.
Han voted at the Mandeok 2-dong Community Service Center in Buk-gu, Busan, around 7 a.m. that day. His wife, attorney Jin Eun-jung, accompanied him to the polling station but did not vote that day. Jin plans to vote on the main election day, and Han intends to visit the polling station with her.
After voting, Han told reporters, "This election is a historic one to develop Buk-gu, which has been stagnant for 20 years, to rebuild conservatism, and to crush the runaway of the Lee Jae-myung administration." He added, "I voted with a sense of responsibility, with earnestness and desperation."
He went on to stress, "The flow of public sentiment is clear. I will hold the public sentiment in awe and do my best with earnestness."
"Voter turnout must be high regardless of whether the political landscape is favorable or unfavorable to us. That is democracy," he added. "The Republic of Korea is a country whose direction has been determined by citizens' votes and which has overcome crises. Please be sure to vote."
Regarding the candidates' televised debate held the previous day, Han pointed out, "He was irritable throughout when answering questions about the unconstitutional withdrawal of indictment. He seemed to have prepared, but citizens will evaluate that kind of response."
He also said, "Candidate Park Min-shik spread clear falsehoods. The wise citizens of Buk-gu will judge this as well."
