Democratic Party Leader Jung Chung-rae on Friday, the first day of early voting, called on stock investors benefiting from the rising KOSPI to support the ruling party in the local elections.
"If there are people who have made profits from their stock accounts thanks to the KOSPI's rise, or who feel pleased when looking at their stock accounts, I hope they will vote for the Democratic Party, No. 1 on the ballot," Jung said at a Central Election Strategy Committee meeting held at the campaign office of Jung Won-oh, the Democratic Party's Seoul mayoral candidate, in Jung-gu, Seoul.
"This June 3 local election has become an election to give strength to President Lee Jae-myung," he said.
"Among world leaders, President Lee has a solid reputation for risk management, so confidence is firm that investing in the Korean stock market will not result in losses," Jung said. "Even after the election began, the president's approval rating has not declined but continues to rise, which aligns with the upward trajectory of the stock market."
He added, "Merchants and business owners running shops, just think about the Yoon Suk-yeol administration. Wasn't it terribly painful? Now you can run your businesses with hope, can't you?"
"All of this is thanks to the people and the great achievements of President Lee, who attends to the livelihoods of the people," he stressed. "In terms of getting things done, this is truly an unprecedented and unparalleled best government."
Targeting the People Power Party, Jung said, "I wonder what era this party belongs to." He pointed out, "There are still forces dreaming of the resurrection of insurrection ringleader Yoon Suk-yeol and shouting 'Yoon Again,' and attempts to turn the watermill again with water that has already flowed past — such regressive behavior from the past continues."
He also said, "What Yoon Suk-yeol, Park Geun-hye and Lee Myung-bak have in common is that they are the prison-bound trio. The people will never tolerate any attempt to turn back the history of the Republic of Korea with this regressive prison-bound trio from the past."
Democratic Party Floor Leader Han Byung-do also stated, "To lead the great transformation of the Republic of Korea together with a competent central government, we need capable local governments." He added, "For the Democratic Party, the ruling party, to more firmly secure President Lee's governing philosophy, it must win."
Directed at Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon of the People Power Party, Han criticized, "He said he learned about the missing rebar at GTX-A Samseong Station from the news and has consistently shirked responsibility to the end. He has effectively admitted his own incompetence." He went on to appeal for support, saying, "Candidate Jung Won-oh served as Seongdong-gu district mayor for 12 years and has prioritized citizens' safety more than anyone else. Please choose Candidate Jung, a capable administrator who can demonstrate results through action rather than words."
