Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, criticized the Lee Jae-myung administration's housing policy, saying the current real estate situation has "surged more than during the Moon Jae-in era, which was called a 'real estate hell.'"
In a Facebook post on Friday, Jang said, "President Lee Jae-myung talked about real estate after a long time. At a Cabinet meeting, he asked as if it were someone else's problem, 'I hear home prices are rising again — are you preparing measures?'"
"It's not just that home prices have 'risen again.' Jeonse (a Korean lease system requiring a large lump-sum deposit instead of monthly rent) and monthly rentals are nowhere to be found. Jeonse and monthly rental prices are setting new records day after day," he said. He continued, "What did they say every time we warned home prices would rise? Weren't they confident, claiming it would be 'easier than cleaning up valleys'? And now they are questioning ministers and aides about whether they have any measures."
Jang also took direct aim at the president, asking, "By the way, has President Lee still not sold his Bundang apartment? It would sell if he lowered the price, but he has no intention of doing so. Yet he tells the public to sell their homes." He added sarcastically, "He'll probably say, 'Did you really think I was going to sell when I said I would?'"
Earlier, at a Cabinet meeting held at the Blue House on Wednesday, President Lee said, "I hear home prices are rising again recently — are you preparing measures for this?" adding, "Public trust in government policy is important."
