Kim Boo-kyum, the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for Daegu mayor, emphasized on the 27th that "if you elect Kim Boo-kyum, Daegu citizens can partially rein in the hardline voices of the Democratic Party that they are concerned about." His argument is that voters should choose him in order to change the Democratic Party itself.
Speaking at a press briefing at his campaign office in Dalseo-gu, Daegu, Kim said, "When the so-called (fabricated indictment) special prosecutor law was shaking the entire country, I warned that we would be in serious trouble if we were not cautious this time, and the president and party leadership immediately accepted it."
He added, "As I said when I declared my candidacy, the People Power Party can now be reborn as a healthy conservative force. If you want to bring the People Power Party to its senses, please make use of me."
When asked about People Power Party candidate Choo Kyung-ho's argument that the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport project should be designated as a "state-led project," Kim took aim, calling it "the perfect logic for the government to wash its hands and say, 'We don't know anything about it.'"
Regarding a series of recent ARS-style opinion polls showing somewhat favorable results for candidate Choo, Kim stressed, "Sides with stronger organizations seem to make better use of ARS surveys. From start to finish, I am asking voters to make their judgment this time based on what use Kim Boo-kyum can serve."
On being asked at the previous day's debate by candidate Choo, "Who is (South Korea's) main enemy?" Kim said, "Wouldn't candidate Choo himself have thought it was out of the blue? My late father served in the military his entire life before retiring, and he even came out wearing his military uniform when I ran in past elections."
At the debate, Kim had answered, "The North Korean regime and North Korean military, which threaten the lives and safety of our people with nuclear weapons and missiles, are the enemy."
Asked about former President Park Geun-hye stepping out to support campaigns, he replied, "Repeatedly summoning a former president into the political arena is itself not desirable. However, if she grants permission, it is a matter of courtesy to pay a visit. Proper treatment befitting a former president must be observed."
Asked whether he had an appeal message for voters in their 20s and undecided voters, Kim pledged to pursue job creation through industrial transformation, funding for youth start-ups, the construction of K-pop concert venues, and projects commemorating Daegu-born stars such as BTS member V.
