Choo Mi-ae, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for Gyeonggi Province governor, holds a commanding lead over Yang Hyang-ja of the People Power Party, according to a new opinion poll.
In a survey commissioned by Kyeongin Ilbo and conducted by Korea Gallup, Choo received 54% support, while Yang garnered 27%. The poll surveyed 1,001 Gyeonggi Province residents aged 18 and over on November 25-26 about their preferences for the next provincial governor. Cho Eung-cheon of the Reform Party received 4%, and Hong Sung-kyu of the Progressive Party received 1%.
A similar pattern emerged among the "active voter" group, those who said they would definitely vote in the upcoming local elections. Choo's support stood at 59%, Yang at 28%, Cho at 4%, and Hong at 1%.
Choo also drew support from conservative voters. Among respondents who identified themselves as conservative-leaning, 60% backed Yang, while 24% chose Choo. Among voters aged 70 and over, 40% supported Yang and 36% supported Choo.
The poll was conducted through 100% computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI), with respondents randomly selected from anonymized mobile phone numbers. The margin of error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, with a response rate of 12.3%.
