The South Korean government announced findings that the projectile that struck the Korean-flagged vessel HMM Nanum in the Strait of Hormuz was likely an Iranian-made anti-ship missile.
First Vice Foreign Minister Park Yoon-joo said in a briefing on the 27th, "Technical analysis concluded it was highly likely a 'Noor'-series anti-ship missile developed in Iran."
Park said the conclusion was based on analysis of the warhead shape and the color of the airframe debris.
The government did not directly identify Iran as the attacker.
However, Park said, "Multiple pieces of evidence point toward Iran," adding, "We plan to summon the Iranian ambassador to South Korea to explain the investigation results and demand responsible measures, including steps to prevent recurrence."
