The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs will host a range of cultural events to mark "Memorial Month" in June, honoring those who sacrificed and contributed to the nation, the ministry said Thursday.
This year's theme is "Hoho Hunhun Hoguk Bohun," a Korean phrase conveying warmth and gratitude. The theme reflects the message that the peaceful daily lives Koreans enjoy today are made possible by the sacrifices and contributions of national merit holders, and calls for sharing respect and warm appreciation.
The 71st Memorial Day ceremony will be held on June 6 at Seoul National Cemetery. The 100th anniversary commemoration of the June 10th Independence Movement will take place on June 10 at Gwanghwamun Square.
The 76th anniversary event for the Korean War will be held as a public participation event remembering the sacrifices and contributions of war veterans.
In addition, the veterans' festival "Korea Memorial Festa" will be held over two days from June 6 to 7 at the Youth Plaza in Nanji Hangang Park, Seoul.
Veterans campaigns and events linked to various sports events, including professional baseball and professional soccer, will also be conducted nationwide.
