Foreign Minister Cho Hyun will strengthen bilateral cooperation with his Singaporean counterpart, who is visiting Korea for the first time in 20 years.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday that Cho will hold a Korea-Singapore foreign ministers' meeting with Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan in Seoul on Friday. Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the previous day that Balakrishnan would visit China, North Korea and South Korea from the 24th to the 28th.
The official visit by Singapore's foreign minister marks the first such trip in approximately 20 years since 2007. At the meeting, the two sides will review the implementation status of outcomes from the two previous Korea-Singapore summits and discuss measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation as well as the situation on the Korean Peninsula. They also plan to exchange views on regional and international affairs, including the recent situation in the Middle East.
The two countries elevated their bilateral relationship to a "strategic partnership" last year on the occasion of Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's official visit to Korea (November 1-2, 2025), marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties. President Lee Jae-myung made a state visit to Singapore (March 1-3, 2026) in March this year, continuing active high-level exchanges.
