Republic of Korea Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Kim Kyung-ryul is visiting Canada to support defense industry cooperation, with the final decision on a Canadian submarine contract worth up to 60 trillion won approaching in about a month.
The Navy announced Monday that Admiral Kim will visit Canada from the 21st to the 29th to strengthen military cooperation between the Korean and Canadian navies and support defense industry cooperation.
Admiral Kim will hold dinner talks with Vice Admiral Angus Topshee, Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy, who has been designated as the next Canadian Vice Chief of the Defence Staff.
He will also hold bilateral talks with Rear Admiral Dan Charlebois, Deputy Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy, who has been designated as the next Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy, and Rear Admiral David Patchell, Commander of Maritime Forces Pacific, to discuss measures to strengthen military cooperation and support defense industry cooperation.
Admiral Kim plans to attend the welcoming ceremony for the submarine ROKS Dosan Ahn Chang-ho (3,000 tons) and the frigate ROKS Daejeon (3,100 tons), which are entering the port of Victoria, Canada, for the Korea-Canada combined cooperation exercise, and encourage the troops.
The ROKS Dosan Ahn Chang-ho will then participate in a combined cooperation exercise with the Canadian Navy and the U.S. Navy-led multinational maritime exercise RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific) before returning to Korea.
