
The asset disclosures of candidates running in South Korea's June 3 parliamentary by-elections have been released, with 39 candidates who completed registration on the first day reporting average assets of approximately 1.9 billion won.
According to candidate registration data released by the National Election Commission on Tuesday, the 39 candidates who completed registration as of Monday reported average assets of 1,901,885,000 won.
The candidate who declared the largest amount was Kim Yong-nam of the Democratic Party, running in the Pyeongtaek-B by-election in Gyeonggi Province, who reported total assets of 12,770,497,000 won.
He was followed by Lee Jin-sook of the People Power Party, running in the Dalseong by-election in Daegu, who declared 8,215,392,000 won, and Cho Kuk of the Rebuilding Korea Party, also running in Pyeongtaek-B in Gyeonggi Province, who reported 5,667,679,000 won.
In the Buk-A by-election in Busan, Democratic Party candidate Ha Jung-woo declared 4,248,804,000 won, while People Power Party candidate Park Min-shik reported 3,592,349,000 won.
Independent candidate Han Dong-hoon, who is running in the same district, was scheduled to register on Tuesday, with his asset disclosures to be released Wednesday.
In the Hanam-A by-election in Gyeonggi Province, Democratic Party candidate Lee Kwang-jae declared 2,521,944,000 won, while People Power Party candidate Lee Yong reported 577,582,000 won.
Asset disclosures from candidates with backgrounds as former presidential office aides were also revealed. Kim Nam-jun of the Democratic Party (former spokesperson), running in the Gyeyang-B by-election in Incheon, declared 416,312,000 won; Kim Nam-kuk of the Democratic Party (former digital communications secretary), running in the Ansan-A by-election in Gyeonggi Province, reported 357,442,000 won; and Jeon Eun-soo of the Democratic Party (former spokesperson), running in the Asan-B by-election in South Chungcheong Province, declared 421,144,000 won.
Song Young-gil of the Democratic Party, running in the Yeonsu-A by-election in Incheon, declared 902,860,000 won, while Kim Eui-kyeom of the Democratic Party, running in the Gunsan-Gimje-Buan-A by-election in North Jeolla Province, reported 2,127,918,000 won.
The candidate who declared the smallest amount of assets was Shin Ji-hye of the Basic Income Party, running in the Gwangsan-B district in Gwangju, with assets of 31 million won.
By party, the 13 Democratic Party candidates reported average assets of 2,291,299,000 won, while the 11 People Power Party candidates reported an average of 1,841,615,000 won.
Criminal records were also disclosed. Cho Kuk has two prior convictions, while Lee Kwang-jae has four. The candidate with the most prior convictions was Jeon Ju-yeon of the Progressive Party, running in the Gwangsan-B district in Gwangju, with five.
