
President Lee Jae-myung's job approval rating stood at 61%, according to a poll released Saturday.
Based on a Gallup Korea survey of 1,011 voters aged 18 and older nationwide conducted from Wednesday to Friday, 61% of respondents said the president was "doing a good job." Lee's approval rating fell 3 percentage points from the previous survey. Negative assessments stood at 28%, up 2 percentage points from the previous poll, while 11% withheld their opinion.
The most-cited reasons for positive evaluations were "economy and livelihood" (26%), "diplomacy" (10%), and "doing well overall" (7%). Reasons for negative evaluations included "excessive welfare/livelihood subsidies" and "morality issues/avoiding personal trials" (10% each), followed by "economy/livelihood/high exchange rate" (9%) and "doing poorly overall" (8%).
In the party support survey, the Democratic Party of Korea registered 45%, down 1 percentage point from the previous poll. The People Power Party stood at 23%, up 2 percentage points. Among moderates, 45% expressed support for the Democratic Party and 14% for the People Power Party.
The Reform Party drew 4%, the Rebuilding Korea Party 2%, and the Progressive Party 1%. Unaffiliated voters accounted for 24%.
The survey was conducted via computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) using randomly selected mobile phone virtual numbers provided by the country's three major telecom carriers. The response rate was 12.5%. The margin of error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
