
President Lee Jae-myung on Wednesday appointed Moon Sung-yo, former head of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Planning and Coordination Office, as commissioner of the Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency.
Lee Kyu-yeon, senior presidential secretary for public communications, announced the appointment in a briefing at the Chunchugwan press hall. Lee described the new commissioner as "a career bureaucrat in land and urban development, having helped build the foundations of the Multifunctional Administrative City and draft the master plan for the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region." He added, "We expect him to play a significant role in transforming Saemangeum into a hub for future advanced industries such as robotics, hydrogen and artificial intelligence."
Former lawmaker Hong Mi-young was named chair of the National Sustainable Development Commission. Paik Jong-woo, a professor at Kyung Hee University, was tapped as vice chair of the National Life and Safety Commission. Kim Ki-young, a professor at Yonsei University, was appointed chair of the National Library Committee.
