
President Lee Jae-myung on the 15th named Hyun Soo-yeop, the Ministry of Health and Welfare's spokesperson, as the ministry's first vice minister.
Lee Kyu-yeon, senior presidential secretary for public communications, announced the appointment in a briefing at the press room. Lee described the new vice minister as "a career bureaucrat who has served in key posts at the Health and Welfare Ministry, including director of population and child policy and director of the childcare policy division." He added, "As a working mother raising four children, she contributed greatly to improving the treatment of childcare teachers and introducing the childcare system for daycare center directors." He also said she is "the right person to build a tightly knit social safety net encompassing both welfare and health."
