The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) held the second Korea-NATO Defense Industry Cooperation Committee meeting with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) at the Government Complex Gwacheon on Wednesday, the agency said.
The second meeting, held eight months after the first in September last year, was co-chaired by DAPA's International Cooperation Officer and NATO's Director of Defense Innovation and Armaments, where the two sides discussed defense industry cooperation measures.
The Korean side emphasized that securing NATO standard information is critical for domestic defense companies to implement the interoperability of Korean weapons systems. In response, NATO requested Korea's participation in multilateral cooperation projects in areas such as munitions and space that NATO member states are pursuing.
In a meeting with Tarja Jaakkola, NATO's Director of Defense Innovation and Armaments, DAPA Commissioner Lee Yong-chul said, "Since the Russia-Ukraine war, security in the Indo-Pacific region and NATO security have become more closely linked." He added, "We will specify defense industry cooperation measures through continuous and close communication with the NATO International Staff."
