Democratic Party leader Jung Chung-rae will hold a nomination rally Monday with candidates from Gyeonggi, Incheon, and Jeju regions for the June 3 local elections, rallying support to win the vote.
According to political sources, Jung will attend the Gyeonggi-Incheon-Jeju nomination rally at KINTEX in Ilsan, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on Monday morning. The event will be attended by Jung, other party leaders, and about 340 confirmed nominees from each region. Regional party chairs, metropolitan government candidates, and by-election candidates from Gyeonggi, Incheon, and Jeju will also be present.
The Democratic Party, which began holding regional nomination rallies on the 4th starting with Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, and Gyeongbuk, plans to hold rallies for Seoul and Gangwon on the 11th, followed by Chungcheong and Honam on the 12th.
Meanwhile, Han Byung-do, who was re-elected as Democratic Party floor leader on Sunday, plans to meet with Hong Ik-pyo, senior presidential secretary for political affairs, at the National Assembly on Monday afternoon. The two are expected to discuss party-government-presidential office coordination on issues including overcoming the Middle East crisis and livelihood concerns.
Given that Han announced the previous day that the so-called "fabricated indictment (prosecution withdrawal) special counsel bill" would be handled after the local elections, attention is also focused on whether related discussions will take place.
