Kim Yong-nam, a former lawmaker running as the Democratic Party candidate in the Pyeongtaek-B constituency in Gyeonggi Province, said there will be no candidacy unification with Cho Kuk, leader of the Rebuilding Korea Party.
Appearing on an SBS radio program Friday, Kim responded "No" when asked whether unification was entirely off the table. "Even in a five-way race, I am confident of winning," he said. "I am the candidate of the Democratic Party that produced Lee Jae-myung, and the candidate of a party with comparatively strong support."
Kim sharply criticized Cho, who has been conducting negative campaigning against him. "Having gone through this with him now, memories of 2019 come flooding back. He wears people out," Kim said. "I will not engage in low-level politics like that."
Kim also took aim at Cho, saying, "It makes no sense that someone who claims to stand for zeroing out the People Power Party is targeting me with negative attacks." He added, "If we start vetting, I may not be a 100% flawless person, but honestly, could I have more flaws than someone who recently completed a two-year prison sentence after a final conviction?"
