Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the main opposition People Power Party, sharply criticized the "fabricated indictment special counsel" bill being pushed by the ruling Democratic Party of Korea, calling it "a full package of unconstitutionality."
"The special counsel aimed at erasing Lee Jae-myung's crimes is unconstitutional upon unconstitutional upon unconstitutional — a full package of unconstitutionality," Jang said at a supreme council meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, on Tuesday. "A law that exists for a single person is not a law but violence and a crime."
Jang went further, saying, "If it has come to this, they might as well enact a 'Lee Jae-myung Supreme Dignity Act.'" He added, "The moment rule of man overrides rule of law, the values of freedom and equality collapse, and the country will become an 'Animal Farm.'"
"Whether we live as citizens of a free Republic of Korea or become slaves of Lee Jae-myung's Animal Farm depends on the people's choice on June 3," he said. "This local election is an election to defend liberal democracy and constitutional order."
Jang also pointed out that "seven out of the Democratic Party's 16 metropolitan mayor and governor candidates have criminal records." He quipped, "Considering that the president himself has four prior convictions, including drunk driving, there isn't much more to say."
"Why on earth should law-abiding, decent citizens who have lived their entire lives obeying the law entrust local governance to such criminals?" he said. "I hope the people will judge the shameless Democratic Party with their decent votes in this local election."
