Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back visited units under the Capital Defense Command responsible for the outer perimeter security of the former Blue House on Tuesday, inspecting operational readiness and facilities while encouraging troops.
At the security and guard unit of the Special Security Zone under the Capital Defense Command, Ahn received briefings on operational status from subordinate unit commanders through on-site and video teleconference (VTC) meetings at the operations command and control center, and emphasized thorough mission execution.
"This area, which carries out perimeter security operations for the Blue House Special Security Zone, is precisely the strategic frontline unit," Ahn said, stressing its importance. "Please implement a flawless operational posture on the ground that the public can rely on with peace of mind."
Ahn then personally inspected major security and guard facilities in the Special Security Zone on foot and encouraged field operations personnel. He also visited an air defense position and emphasized "an airtight air defense operational posture."
"The core of air defense readiness is the strict adherence to fundamentals and principles," Ahn said. "Complacent thinking that there have been no problems so far can be a major risk factor, so a culture of implementing all procedures according to principle must be established."
He also highlighted the importance of air defense operations in light of the recent rise in new threats such as unmanned aerial vehicles and drones. "As surveillance and strike assets become more advanced and sophisticated, the sense of responsibility and mission of those who directly operate them must grow even greater," he said.
