Democratic Party Rep. Suh Young-kyo has announced she will not run in the party's floor leader election. Analysts say the decision increases the likelihood that former floor leader Rep. Han Byeong-do will be endorsed unopposed.
"The floor leader election has begun," Suh wrote on Facebook on Wednesday. "As someone who ran for floor leader in 2025, I seriously considered running again, but this time I will focus on my duties as chair of the parliamentary investigation committee and chair of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, and do my best."
With Suh stepping aside, attention is turning to Han, who enjoys strong support among lawmakers and has already declared his candidacy, raising the prospect of an uncontested endorsement. "During my 100 days as floor leader, I could not relax for even a second," Han wrote on Facebook the same day. "I will devote all my energy to the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration and the victory of the Democratic Party."
