The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs said it will host 26 war veterans and bereaved family members from four Commonwealth nations — the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand — for a six-day revisit program beginning Tuesday to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Gapyeong.
The Battle of Gapyeong was fought in April 1951 between Commonwealth forces and Chinese troops in Gapyeong County, Gyeonggi Province. After three days of intense combat, Commonwealth forces defeated a Chinese force more than five times their size.
The veterans and bereaved families arrived in Korea on the same day and will attend ceremonies including the Battle of the Imjin River commemoration and the Commonwealth Battle of Gapyeong commemoration. They are also scheduled to visit Panmunjom on Friday.
The army chiefs of staff from the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand will also take part in the revisit program to honor the sacrifice and dedication of the veterans.
