Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the opposition People Power Party, on Monday criticized President Lee Jae-myung for defending Unification Minister Chung Dong-young's reference to a "Kusong nuclear facility" as not constituting a leak of classified information, characterizing the current administration's foreign policy as a "pro-North Korea, Korea-China alliance."
In a Facebook post accompanied by a news article headlined "President Lee Shields Chung Dong-young," Jang wrote: "Trump asks, 'Korea-U.S. alliance? or Korea-China alliance?' Lee Jae-myung is answering, 'Pro-North Korea, Korea-China alliance!'"
Jang also attached a photo of U.S. President Donald Trump with the letters "FAFO," an American slang term warning against reckless behavior. The White House previously posted the image on its official social media accounts at the time of the sudden arrest and extradition of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
A day earlier, President Lee defended Chung over his remarks at the National Assembly identifying Kusong in North Pyongan Province as the site of a third North Korean nuclear facility, saying, "It is a clear fact that the existence of the Kusong nuclear facility was already widely known around the world through various academic papers and media reports before Minister Chung's remarks."
With reports that the United States protested after Chung's remarks and has partially restricted intelligence sharing on North Korea, the People Power Party is demanding Chung's immediate dismissal.
