The National Security Office will hold an emergency security situation review meeting Wednesday after North Korea launched several ballistic missiles into the East Sea.
Kang Yu-jung, chief spokesperson for the Presidential Office, said the emergency security meeting will be chaired by Kim Hyun-chong, first deputy director of national security, with the Ministry of National Defense and other relevant agencies participating. According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), North Korea fired several unidentified ballistic missiles from the Sinpo area into the East Sea at around 6:10 a.m. Wednesday. The JCS is analyzing the specifications and range of the North Korean projectiles while strengthening surveillance and vigilance in preparation for additional launches.
The ballistic missile provocation comes 11 days after the previous one on the 8th. Analysts view the launch as a show of force ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to China in mid-next month.
Meanwhile, President Lee Jae-myung departs for New Delhi on Wednesday for a tour of India and Vietnam.
