President Lee Jae-myung will make state visits to India and Vietnam on a 5-night, 6-day schedule from the 19th to the 24th.
National Security Office Director Wi Sung-lac announced President Lee's itinerary during a briefing that day. First, President Lee will visit New Delhi for 2 nights and 3 days from the 19th to the 21st at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On the 19th, following India's state visit protocol, he will meet with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and hold a dinner meeting with Korean compatriots. On the following day, the 20th, he will lay a wreath at the Gandhi Memorial Park before holding a summit with Prime Minister Modi. The talks will proceed with a small group meeting and an expanded meeting, followed by an MOU exchange ceremony and joint press statement.
Director Wi stated, "We will open a new chapter in bilateral economic cooperation in strategic areas such as shipbuilding and marine, finance, artificial intelligence (AI), and defense industries," adding, "Amid the rapidly changing international situation due to the Middle East war and other factors, we will maintain close coordination regarding energy supply chains."
On the 21st, he will travel to Hanoi, Vietnam, and on the 22nd, after a luncheon meeting with Korean compatriots, he will hold a summit with To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and State President. Following the talks, the two leaders will continue with an MOU exchange ceremony, joint press statement, and state dinner.
Director Wi explained, "Through this visit, we intend to strengthen mutually beneficial and strategic cooperation with Vietnam in core national development areas such as nuclear power plants," adding, "Amid growing global uncertainty, we will seek energy supply chain stability and strengthen cooperation on critical minerals."
