The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs held its first Special Achievement Awards ceremony to recognize teams and civil servants who delivered results in veterans policy areas including system improvements, crisis response, and welfare expansion, the ministry announced Wednesday.
The first special achievement team awards went to the Living Stability and Housing Support Team, which implemented the "Veterans Housing Support" program providing public rental housing to descendants of independence activists, and the Veterans Medical Policy Division's Medical Support Team, which operated an emergency care system at veterans hospitals to minimize treatment gaps for eligible veterans.
For individual awards, a deputy director at the Veterans Organizations Cooperation Office who led efforts to expand veterans organization membership eligibility to bereaved families, and a deputy director at the Veterans Culture Policy Division who spearheaded the reorganization of the pro-Japanese property management system, each received special achievement awards of 1 million won.
"This special achievement award is the first case of providing appropriate compensation to public servants who created changes that citizens can feel, establishing a clear standard that performance will be rewarded," Minister Kwon Oh-eul said. "We will expand special achievement awards to drive innovation in veterans administration centered on veterans families and citizens."
