The Korean government announced on January 12 that it dispatched a public-private defense cooperation delegation to Latin America, led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, to conduct K-defense sales activities.
The delegation included the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, DAPA, Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Korea Defense Industry Association, Agency for Defense Development, and seven major defense companies including HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (329180.KS), Hanwha Ocean (042660.KS), and Korean Air.
The delegation visited Chile and Brazil, two promising markets for defense exports, from January 6 to 10.
From January 6 to 7, the delegation participated in FIDAE, Latin America's largest defense and aerospace international exhibition held in Chile, where they met with Chilean and Latin American defense officials to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation frameworks.
At the event, the delegation held a Latin America Defense Export Council meeting in Chile to exchange views on regional defense market trends and strategies to expand exports. They also held a corporate meeting where defense companies hoping to enter the Latin American market presented their proposals and concerns.
From January 9 to 10, the delegation visited Brazil, meeting with high-ranking defense officials to promote Korea's defense capabilities and advanced weapons systems, and exchanged views on potential areas of bilateral defense cooperation.
