The Presidential Office said Thursday it will "do its best to enable Korean ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible," following the United States and Iran's agreement on a two-week ceasefire conditioned on opening the strait.
A Presidential Office official made the remarks in response to questions about when Korean ships would be able to transit through the Strait of Hormuz under the U.S.-Iran ceasefire agreement.
"As this ceasefire agreement has created conditions for resuming passage through the Strait of Hormuz, the government plans to accelerate consultations with shipping companies and communication with relevant countries to enable our ships' passage as soon as possible," the official explained.
The official also noted that "Iran has indicated it will resume passage while considering coordination with its military and technical constraints, and we are closely monitoring the specific passage methods and conditions through communication with relevant countries."
"We will also swiftly re-examine all necessary matters including the list of ships required for passage through close consultation with shipping companies," the official added.
