As Choo Mi-ae won the final primary for the Gyeonggi Province gubernatorial race held by the Democratic Party of Korea, the two defeated candidates — incumbent Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon and lawmaker Han Jun-ho — said they humbly accept the result.
Governor Kim posted on Facebook shortly after the primary results were announced on the 7th. "I humbly accept the choice of Gyeonggi residents and party members," he wrote. "I pray that candidate Choo's dedication to the Lee Jae-myung government and Gyeonggi Province will shine." He added, "With a humbler posture and a more earnest heart, I will fulfill every responsibility given to me to the very end — for the Lee Jae-myung government, for the Democratic Party, and for our communities across 31 cities and counties."
Lawmaker Han also wrote on Facebook, "I humbly accept the result." He said, "Although I stop here, I will continue to walk in the direction we walked together with all of you." He added, "I will pour everything into making sure President Lee is recorded and remembered in history as a 'successful president.'"
Earlier, Soh Byung-hoon, chair of the Democratic Party's central election management committee, announced that candidate Choo secured a majority in the primary vote held from the 4th to the 7th, winning the party's nomination for the Gyeonggi gubernatorial race in the June 3 local elections.
