Rep. Choo Mi-ae has been selected as the Democratic Party of Korea's final candidate for Gyeonggi governor in the June 3 local elections.
So Byeong-hun, chairman of the party's central election management committee, announced Wednesday afternoon that Choo won a majority of votes in the primary runoff and was confirmed as the final candidate. Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon and Rep. Han Jun-ho, who competed against Choo, were eliminated.
The primary for the Gyeonggi governor candidacy ran for three days from Monday through Wednesday, with party member votes and public opinion surveys each weighted at 50%. Choo secured the nomination without a runoff vote by winning a majority. Under party rules, the ranking and vote share of each candidate were not disclosed.
