Kwon Chil-seung, a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker, will join the campaign of former Prime Minister Kim Bu-gyeom as co-chairman of the joint election committee. Kim has declared his candidacy for the Daegu mayoral race.
Kwon, a three-term lawmaker, previously served as Minister of SMEs and Startups. He was recently elected chairman of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee and is expected to support Kim's key policy agenda, including the integration of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province. Kwon is a direct junior of Kim from Daegu Middle School and Gyeongbuk High School.
Chae Hong-ho, former administrative deputy mayor of Daegu, will serve as head of the general policy headquarters. Chae served as administrative deputy mayor under then-Mayor Kwon Young-jin and is an administrative affairs expert who held posts including director general of disaster and safety management and local administration policy director at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
Kim Young-gil, the camp's policy headquarters chief, previously served as policy director of the Democratic Party's Policy Committee. He is a leading policy expert within the party, having also served as head of future planning at the Democratic Research Institute and as a standing director at the Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Baek Su-beom, the camp's spokesperson, is a Daegu-born lawyer known as a community-oriented legal professional. He provided pro bono legal assistance to merchants affected by the Seomun Market fire.
