Han Byeong-do, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, emphasized on Sunday that the supplementary budget must be passed on June 10, criticizing the People Power Party (PPP) for continuing its offensive against the extra budget bill.
"The People Power Party must immediately stop its attempts to turn the war supplementary budget into a political dispute," Han said at a supreme council meeting held at the small theater of Gyeonggi Art Center on Sunday.
"This supplementary budget is a breakwater to protect livelihoods and industries from the economic tsunami caused by the prolonged Middle East situation," Han said. "The situation on the ground is truly desperate and urgent, yet the People Power Party is only fueling political conflict by unleashing verbal attacks."
"The public is rallying to overcome the Middle East crisis. The least the PPP could do is not hold back the government, even if it cannot cooperate," Han said. "If the People Power Party's attacks on the supplementary budget are meant to cover up nomination disputes and internal party turmoil, that itself is electioneering."
"The People Power Party must immediately stop its political offensive that ignores livelihoods and holds the economy hostage, and cooperate on the swift passage of the supplementary budget," Han said. "The Democratic Party will ensure the war supplementary budget is passed on June 10 to lay the groundwork for overcoming the Middle East crisis."
