President Lee Jae-myung spent time engaging with citizens enjoying cherry blossoms along Yunjung-ro in Yeouido, Seoul, after attending a joint Easter service at Yoido Full Gospel Church on Saturday.
Kang Yu-jeong, senior spokesperson for the presidential office, said in a written briefing that "President Lee and First Lady Kim Hye-gyeong made a surprise visit to Yunjung-ro in Yeouido to interact with citizens who came to enjoy the cherry blossoms."
The presidential couple took photos with citizens who requested them, and snapped selfies with foreigners from Panama and China while enjoying the cherry blossoms together. They also took photos with a grandmother who identified herself as the daughter of an independence patriot, along with her granddaughter.
President Lee was particularly welcoming of photo requests from young couples holding babies and newlywed couples, the spokesperson said. While taking photos with them, the president said with a big smile, "Newlywed couples are really important."
Meanwhile, a child enjoying the cherry blossoms with his mother asked, "Grandfather President, please take a photo with me." A presidential office aide responded, "Not grandfather — uncle!" drawing laughter from First Lady Kim and the surrounding citizens.
