Kim Byung-joo, a lawmaker of the Democratic Party of Korea, visited Gyeongsang Province on Saturday to support Kim Gyeong-su, the party's candidate for Gyeongnam governor, he said.
Kim's visit was intended to signal that the central party would back Kim Gyeong-su, who has been confirmed as the candidate for the June 3 local election for Gyeongnam governor, as "one team." Kim plans to hold a meeting with Gyeongnam party members at the candidate's office Saturday afternoon to hear on-the-ground sentiment and discuss party-level support measures.
Before the party members' meeting, Kim visited Bonghwa Village to pay respects at the gravesite of the late former President Roh Moo-hyun.
In addition, in his capacity as chair of the Democratic Party's Special Committee on Defense Industry, Kim will visit Hanwha Aerospace (012450.KS) in Changwon to hold a meeting with defense companies and conduct an on-site inspection. Hanwha Aerospace, Hyundai Rotem (064350.KS), and other mid-sized and small regional defense firms will attend the meeting.
