The Daejeon National Cemetery's new administrative building officially opens on Thursday.

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs said it will hold the opening ceremony on the second floor auditorium of the new building on Thursday, with some 100 attendees including Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Kwon Oh-eul, Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Choi Ju-won, and heads of local veterans' organizations.

The Daejeon National Cemetery's administrative building had been in use for more than 40 years since the cemetery opened in 1980. The new building was constructed to address inconveniences faced by bereaved families and visitors due to aging facilities and limited space, and to provide comfortable and dignified interment and memorial services.

A total of approximately 15.11 billion won ($11 million) has been invested since the "building supply plan" was finalized in 2021.

The two-story building sits on a 7,600-square-meter site with a total floor area of 2,980 square meters. It houses offices, a civil affairs guidance center, a training room, a large conference hall, and a lounge.

Civil affairs and administrative offices, previously housed in separate locations, have been consolidated into a single building. The integration is expected to enable faster and more convenient interment and memorial services by allowing visitors to complete applications, consultations, and administrative processing in one place.

"I will do my best to ensure this new building goes beyond a simple administrative space and becomes an open veterans' cultural space where the noble spirit of national veterans can be shared with the public," Minister Kwon said.
