President Lee Jae-myung on Saturday approved the appointment and commission of four members to the Broadcasting, Media and Communications Commission (BMCC).
Cheongwadae spokesperson Kang Yu-jeong announced that the appointments of standing commissioner Ko Min-su and non-standing commissioners Yun Seong-ok, Lee Sang-geun and Choi Su-young were finalized. With the earlier appointments of Chairman Kim Jong-cheol and non-standing commissioner Ryu Sin-hwan, the seven-member collegiate body has now seated six members, meeting the quorum of four required to convene meetings.
Ko, a law professor at Kangwon National University, and Yun, a media studies professor at Kyonggi University, were nominated by the ruling Democratic Party of Korea. Lee, a business professor at Sogang University, and Choi, head of the Seoul One-Person Media Content Association, were nominated by the opposition People Power Party.
The standing commissioner seat allocated to the People Power Party remains vacant after the National Assembly rejected the nomination of candidate Cheon Yeong-sik in a plenary vote in late February.
