South Korea and the European Union agreed to strengthen cooperation in economic security areas including supply chain stabilization and securing critical minerals.
Kim Jin-a, Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with Belen Martinez Carbonell, Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS), who was visiting Seoul on Tuesday, to discuss such measures.
Kim noted the growing importance of security cooperation between Korea and the EU. She expressed hope that the Second Korea-EU Security and Defense Dialogue, scheduled for May, would produce substantive cooperation outcomes in key strategic areas including the defense industry, maritime security and cybersecurity.
Martinez Carbonell noted that bilateral cooperation has been expanding in economic security areas including supply chain stability and critical mineral procurement. She stressed the need to continue operating regular dialogue channels to further develop concrete cooperation agendas going forward.
The two sides also held in-depth exchanges of views on major regional issues including the situations in the Middle East and Ukraine. They agreed that Korea and the EU should maintain close communication and coordination at all levels in response to the rapidly changing international landscape.
