South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 11th that it will dispatch an additional joint government rapid response team to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to support the safe return of Korean nationals staying in Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries.
The rapid response team consists of six members, including three from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and three from the National Police Agency, led by Lee Jae-woong, former spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The team will work with local diplomatic missions to assist the smooth repatriation of Korean nationals not only in Saudi Arabia but also those evacuating from neighboring countries such as Iraq, Kuwait, and Bahrain, where flight operations have been suspended due to airspace closures.
On the same day afternoon (Korea time), 29 Korean nationals and one foreign spouse entered Saudi Arabia from Kuwait with support from the Korean Embassy in Kuwait, including vehicle transportation. From Iraq, following 16 Korean nationals on the 9th, another 9 arrived safely in Saudi Arabia on the 10th with assistance from the Korean embassies in Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has previously dispatched rapid response teams on three occasions to Turkmenistan, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates to support the swift and safe return of Korean nationals staying in those regions.
