The People Power Party decided on the 11th to open additional nominations for two regions—Seoul and South Chungcheong—where incumbent metropolitan government heads had not applied for nominations in the June 3 local elections. While South Chungcheong Governor Kim Tae-heum has decided to apply for the additional nomination, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon continues to deliberate until the last moment.
Lee Jung-hyun, chairman of the People Power Party's nomination management committee, announced at the party's central headquarters in Yeouido that day, "We have resolved to accept additional nomination applications for Seoul mayor and South Chungcheong governor candidates." The nomination committee plans to accept additional applications for the two regions for one day on the 12th, followed by interview screenings on the 13th.
Governor Kim immediately expressed his intention to apply. Previously, Governor Kim had not applied for nomination, citing unresolved issues regarding the integration of South Chungcheong and Daejeon.
Mayor Oh, who had refused to register as a candidate while demanding changes to party direction, did not give a definitive answer. Mayor Oh said, "I consider it fortunate that the 'Jeol-yun' proposal was adopted," but added, "It must not end as mere declaration. I earnestly request the leadership to take action."
