
The South Korean government expressed concern over the Iran situation and stated its hope for a resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a spokesperson's statement on the 2nd, saying, "Our government is closely monitoring with grave concern the current developments in the Middle East between the United States, Israel, and Iran," adding that "we are undertaking multifaceted efforts to protect Korean nationals currently in the Middle East region and to ensure economic security, including energy supply and demand."
The ministry emphasized, "As a party to the North Korean nuclear issue, we maintain a firm commitment to upholding the international non-proliferation regime, and on this basis, we have been participating in the international community's efforts to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue."
The statement continued, "Our government hopes that the current Middle East situation will be resolved in accordance with the universal values and principles of the international community," adding, "To this end, we ultimately hope that the dialogue process will be restored and that peace and stability in the region will be swiftly recovered through negotiations."
