SINGAPORE — President Lee Jae-myung, on a state visit to Singapore, began his official schedule on the 2nd upon arriving at the formal welcome ceremony.
As President Lee entered the official welcome ceremony held at the Singapore government complex, a military band performed the Korean national anthem. Following the performance of the Singapore national anthem, President Lee inspected the honor guard.
President Lee wore a black suit with a blue tie and a Korean flag badge on his left chest. First Lady Kim Hye-kyung attended the welcome ceremony alongside President Lee, dressed in a light blue two-piece suit.
The presidential couple then moved to another venue for an orchid naming ceremony. The orchid is Singapore's national flower, and the naming ceremony is an event where a hybrid orchid is named after visiting dignitaries such as foreign heads of state.
A Singapore Botanic Gardens official explained, "We prepared this symbolically to commemorate President Lee's first bilateral visit to the Southeast Asian region," adding, "The pattern is very beautiful. It can be seen as symbolizing the Geon and Gon of the Korean Taegeuk flag."
President Lee responded, "It is truly an honor to have my name attached to such a beautiful and fragrant orchid."
The orchid was named 'Vanda Lee Jae Myung Kim Hea Kyung' after President Lee and First Lady Kim. President Lee is scheduled to attend a summit meeting, MOU exchange ceremony, and joint press statement later in the day.
