Rep. Park Hong-keun of the Democratic Party of Korea, nominated as the first Minister of Planning and Budget under the Lee Jae-myung administration, said Thursday he would serve as "a cog and lubricant powerfully supporting Korea's great leap forward and the success of the Lee Jae-myung government."
"It is a great honor, but my heart is heavy with the weight of responsibility," Park wrote on Facebook shortly after the nomination announcement.
"The Ministry of Planning and Budget is an organization whose functions and status I personally designed at the Presidential Transition Committee, so I understand its importance better than anyone," Park said. "Beyond efficient budget allocation, it carries the critical role of overseeing the nation's mid- to long-term strategy."
He added, "I will explain my capabilities and vision in detail through various opportunities."
