President Lee Jae-myung announced on Friday after a summit with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong that the two countries will expand joint research on defense technology and continue discussions on strengthening defense capabilities based on advanced technology. Regarding the recent U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iran, Lee expressed hope for the restoration of stability and peace.
Following the summit at Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs building, Lee said in a joint press statement that the two nations agreed to further expand cooperation in security and continue working together for regional peace and stability. He emphasized that cooperation in responding to transnational crimes such as online scams and cyber threats will also be further strengthened.
Lee stated that Korea will actively support Singapore's activities as next year's ASEAN chair. He added that the two countries will work together to realize and fully implement the CSP vision declared at last year's Korea-ASEAN summit.
Singapore is a meaningful place where the historic U.S.-North Korea summit was held in 2018, Lee said. I express my deep gratitude to Prime Minister Wong for actively supporting our government's efforts for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and the resumption of inter-Korean dialogue.
Lee noted that we also discussed the recent situation in the Middle East during the meeting. We assessed the impact of Middle East developments on global security and the global economy, including energy supply chains, and shared the hope that stability and peace will be restored in the Middle East, he said.
