President Lee Jae-myung on Monday appointed three vice chairpersons to the Presidential Regulatory Rationalization Committee, a prime minister-level body.
The appointees are Nam Koong-bum, advisor at S-1 Corporation and former Samsung executive; Park Yong-jin, former Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker; and Lee Byung-tae, professor at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
The selections draw from industry, politics, and academia, signaling the administration's drive to advance regulatory reform under its "Growth for All" agenda.
Presidential spokesperson Lee Kyu-yeon highlighted Nam's credentials at a briefing, noting he "joined Samsung Electronics in 1989, worked there for over 30 years, and served as CEO of a security firm, making him an expert in management and finance."
Park was described as "the right person for the job, having identified unreasonable regulations and pushed for regulatory improvements while serving as vice chairman of the Democratic Party's policy committee and deputy floor leader."
Lee Byung-tae was praised as "an expert to lead regulatory reform strategy, with academic and social contributions spanning tech startups, information technology, and business strategy."
"The appointees from industry, politics, and academia will create synergy," the spokesperson said. "The committee is structured to ensure balanced representation across sectors and gather diverse opinions."
The committee's status was elevated last month when the Administrative Regulation Framework Act was amended to expand the former Regulatory Reform Committee. President Lee now chairs the body directly.
The appointment of vice chairpersons from industry, politics, and academia reflects the president's strong commitment to reform, officials said.
